The HIV Services Division of the Kansas City, Missouri Health Department provides HIV/AIDS related support services in eleven Missouri counties (Clinton, Platte, Clay, Ray, Jackson, LaFayette, Cass, Johnson, Bates, Henry, Benton) and in four Kansas counties (Miami, Leavenworth, Wyandotte, Johnson).
An integrated prevention and care program, HIV Services is dedicated to advancing the HIV Care Continuum, the leading strategy for reducing new infections and ending the HIV epidemic. The HIV Care Continuum is series of steps a person with HIV takes from initial diagnosis through their successful treatment with HIV medication:
- Diagnosed
- Linked to HIV Medical Care
- Engaged or retained in Care (seeing their doctor regularly)
- Prescribed Antiretroviral Therapy (ART)
- Achieve Viral Suppression
HIV Prevention Services
The Kansas City Health Department’s HIV Prevention Program has been charged to provide a comprehensive Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Sexually Transmitted Disease (HIV/STD) prevention program including:
- Get free testing at the Kansas City Health Dept. Sexual Health Clinic
- Get free condoms, STD testing and more information about STD’s
- Community-Based Regional Planning for HIV/STD Prevention Activities
- HIV/STD Health Education Risk Reduction (HERR) Activities
- HIV Prevention for people living with HIV
- Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) Education*
*PrEP preventative medicine helps to protect people at substantial risk of getting HIV infection by taking a pill daily.
HIV Care Services
KCHD HIV Care Services helps low-income persons living with HIV in the 11-county region surrounding Kansas City to access necessary medical care and support services. HIV Care Services seeks to empower persons living with HIV, so they may overcome obstacles and barriers to care, by offering:
- Linkage to Care
- Case Management
- Housing
- HIV Medical Care
- Dental
- Employment
Kansas City Transitional Grant Area: Ryan White Case Management
The Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program provides a comprehensive system of HIV primary medical care, essential support services, and medications for low-income people living with HIV who are uninsured and underserved. The map shown below indicates the counties served:
