In accordance with FEMA requirements, all Elevation Certificates signed and sealed on Feb. 21, 2020 or later MUST be completed using the updated FEMA form- FEMA Form 086-0-33 (12/19).
Thanks to the City’s efforts under the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Community Rating System, KCMO property owners are eligible to receive a reduction in their flood insurance premiums.
How to Identify Your Flood-Risk and Determine Insurance Needs
- Use the City’s Online Mapping System
- Add your address to the search bar
- Click on the "Layers" tab
- Check the box for "Floodplain"

FEMA requires all structures with federally backed mortgages to be covered under a flood insurance policy.

If You Have Been a Victim of Flooding
A City permit may be required to make repairs. Please see IB100 for one and two family plan submissions or IB110 for commercial plan submissions. You can also call the Code Question Line at (816) 513-1511 or send an email to codequestions@kcmo.org for questions about construction permitting requirements.
Some properties may be in the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) special flood hazard areas, which require an additional permit and review process. Please review Kansas City Ordinance Chapter 28 regarding Floodplain Management and IB120 for floodplain development permitting.
